Five friends. One overnight. Miles of trail through the White Mountains — Guyot, Bond, and the bonds of friendship forged on the ridge.
We drove up from Boston Juneteenth weekend — five guys who maybe slightly underestimated how heavy full backpacking kits would feel by mile 8.
We did our own version of the legendary Pemi Loop — starting at the Zealand trailhead and pushing over Guyot to the Bond peaks. One night on the mountain, then back out Saturday.
Left the city and drove north through the trees — already feeling the trip energy. Camped Thursday night at Lafayette Campground to get close before the big push.
Started at the Zealand parking lot, climbed over Mt. Guyot, hit the Bond peaks (West Bond, Bond, Bondcliff), and camped the night at Guyot Campsite. Heavy packs. Big views. Worth every step.
Packed up camp, hiked back out, and treated ourselves to a well-earned porch meal before the drive home. Back in Boston Saturday night — tired, stinky, grinning.
It wasn't the full Pemi Loop — but it was ours. Guyot, Bond, West Bond, Bondcliff. Overnight packs. Stream crossings. Ridgeline views. Cold mountain air. Friends.
